Howdy folks. Starting next week, Yew Piney Mountain will move to Wednesdays, 6-7 PM CST, KRUI, 89.7 FM. Live audio streaming at: http://www.kruiradio.org/listen

Hope you all can make the switch to Wednesday nights!

Howdy folks. Just a quick note to let you know that I’m leaving on a road trip and there will be no Yew Piney Mountain on June 25 and July 2. Yew Piney Mountain will return on July 9th. Thanks for listening and checking out this blog.

Howdy all. Just a quick post to let you know that Yew Piney Mountain will not air on April 2. KRUI is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary and my show, along with many others, is being preempted by special programming. I’ll be back next week, though, with the best in contemporary and classic old-time music.

I’ll be doing another 2-hour edition of Yew Piney Mountain this Thursday, March 19. I’ll be on the air from 6-8 pm CST. In celebration of my birthday, spring break, and St. Patrick’s day, all of which took place this week, the first hour or so of the show will be devoted to the joys and sorrows of drinking. As always those of you in the Iowa City area can tune in to KRUI over the air on 89.7 FM. Those of you outside the Iowa City area can listen to a live webstream here: http://www.kruiradio.org/listen/

Cats & Dogs

Howdy all. This week I’ll be doing a 2 hour show, with the first hour devoted to tunes/songs about cats and/or dogs. Hope you can tune in, and as always if you have any requests, suggestions, or comments drop me a line.

This week Yew Piney Mountain will have a chicken theme. I initially thought I’d do a short set of chicken tunes, but as I started making a list of potential songs and started to peruse my library I realized just how many great chicken tunes there are. We’ll take a short break from the poultry playlist at some point in the show to play a short set of Ralph Stanley songs in honor of Dr. Ralph’s 82 birthday, which is this Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Next week’s show will have a cats & dogs theme (thanks to my friend Kim in Austin, TX, for the idea). Drop me a comment if you have any suggestions for the playlist.

Yew Piney Mountain airs on KRUI Thursdays from 6-7 pm CST. Those of you in the Iowa City area can tune in over the air on 89.7 FM. Those of you in the wider universe can listen to a live web stream of the show at: http://www.kruiradio.org/listen

This week’s show

This week on Yew Piney Mountain I’ll spin a set of tunes with a belated President’s Day theme. On a similar note, I’ll be playing a set of fiddle tunes from Illinois in honor of both Linocoln’s birthday and President Obama. Finally, I’ll play a set highlighting vintage and contemporary jug bands.
